Right im from scotland and i never grew up with the whole festival, for reasons that ill put down to disability and my parents lack of interest in actually bringing me to a festival or concert does annoy me somewhat.
I would of loved to go to festivals that were like the ones at Stonehenge, i think Glastonbury is just tooo....its different, its not like Woodstock or anything, bands are......
Ah well thats not the point or question, the thing is, is there any festivals, like the small ones or ones like the wickerman festival, basically the ones that arent advertised on the tele all the time. Even a folk music festival, im going to see the levellers at the arches, their doing celtic connections.
I know its a silly question innit......dammit i wish i was, born earlier.

This is a really beatiful festival, its a bit of a hike to get to, but worth it, you have to have EVERYTHING you want with you, you're about 8 miles from the neares shop. Dont let it put you of.

Also, the Isle Of Bute, has a folk festival every year, and iv heard that Mull and Arran have also. Im hoping that people will get together,, next year, we could all organise a wee festy @ the Ring Of Brodgar, up in Orkney.
When i get more info, i'll let you know.

Knockengorrach is wonderful, most of my friends go to it and work there. Also there are a few on the Islands-i played at the Isle of Rum folk festival this year and it was amazing. And nothing beats the Hebridean Celtic festival in Lewis....ahhh it was amazing! Also you can book a b+b as its not a 'typical' festival with camping on site etc, which might suit you better. a search online will take you to its site. Good luck!

Sadly, there are very few free traveller/hippi festivals on nowadays :( You can look at festival eye for more info on this ...

But here are a few pay ones in Scotland and Cumbria...

I went to this last year and had a groovy time boogieing away to bands and in the dance tent even though I was pregnant hehe!! and feeling it http://www.thewickermanfestival.co.uk/
