STRAWBERRY FAIR - MIDSUMMER COMMON - CAMBRIDGE

This occurs the first saturday in June every year. Its one day of madness and mayhem in the middle of Cambridge. All kinds of music tents and stages, so many stalls of everything, and people from everywhere - its beside the river too!

I do hope some of you will be there this year and maybe we can meet up.

But best of all its FREE!

I usually get there early and have a good look round, because its on my doorstep I usually bump into loads of people I've not seen for age, then I head for the main stage and we plant ourselves and chill.

I used to go every year, for years through most of the 90's up until 2002... and I used to love it as it was a place to catch up with mates that had been on the road, and you hadn't seen for a while!!

The Levellers and ozrics used to play there a lot too..then one year through fear of it getting to big they really calmed the who thing down... and then it lost a lot of its charm as the whole free festi scene changed!!

But never the less still worth going to I am sure..even if it was 2002 that I last went!!

I remember the ozrics headling there about 15 yreas ago. It was absolutely fantastic. I agree, that it has been watered down somewhat in the last few years. The dance tent was stopped at one point.
Still, it's still good. what ohter free festi's of that size still go?
i reckon we'll go this year. The baby will be about 4 weeks old. It's first festi!

its not the size that matters...... unless you have more than three horses... hippies can't eat all the grass....

I'm from those parts and we'll probably be staying with GrAnNy FiLtH this year. I normally miss the last bus and spend the night in a bush or a bin bag. We'll have to be more organised this year.

We should be driving down for the fair from Cardiff - so I have room for one person if they need a lift and crash space. I come from Cambridge and am getting VERY excited - I've not been in 3 years due to other commitments.Let me know by PM if you want a lift

(I say I can offer - the other half who drives can - I'll just be picking tunes!):o

Hereford's not far from Cardiff

Is anybody offering a place to crash for the night who lives around that area? The only problem with Strawberry fair is that it only lasts one day and i think a lot of last buses are around 8pm, which sucks a bit!

It could be worth opening a new thread to get a list of people going with their contact details etc so its not a complete shambles! i know quite a lot of people went last year but nothing was really organised!

Ah cool, I think I'll be going down with at least two of my friends though so we'll either get the train or a lift so getting there should be fine :)
