An official assessment drawn up by the US foreign aid agency depicts the security situation in Iraq as dire, amounting to a "social breakdown" in which criminals have "almost free rein".

The outcome of a war with Iraq was predicted by all of us...except the decision making politicians... i dont see a solution here..only more questions. Our capability of taking a bad regime and making the situation worse is an all too familiar scenario throughout history. The full extent of the political blunders that surround the invasion of Iraq will probably never become knowledge to us.

The aftermath of war in unstable regions is all too often more costly in both monetary and human suffering than the original invasion. It makes no sense to me at all.... how can war be considered an option if plans for the resulting chaos have not been adequately addressed?

This is one of the things that makes me seriously question the conspiracy theory take on the Iraq war. It looks more like incompetence to me. I mean if you assume that the Americans' goal is to secure strategic oil supplies.... well even by that criteria, they seem to be failing miserably. And it was all entirely predictable.
