Im looking into getting a Husky at some point soon, and I would prefer to feed her a vege diet. Does anyone feed their dogs vege? Dogs are not true carnivores in the first place, unlike cats, as they posses the enzyme in them already which allows them to digest certain foods. Just looking for advice before I contact a vet in order to see whther this is possible or at least am able to give her a mostly vege diet.

I've known loads of people keeping dogs on veggie diets, and the accepted wisdom seems to be that it shouldn't pose any problems if done right. Cats are another issue though. Check this link (http://www.happidog.co.uk/) out.

Have you considered homing a rescued dog rather than buying a puppy?

Our dogs eat veggie food called Happy dog I was going to put a link to their website but Doc beat me to it. But I am gunna anyways hehe

All my dogs have had mainly this over the years and all have lived long and healthy lives.

A few years ago they thought it was vegan until they discovered that the vitamin D they used in it was the veggie version, so for a while they did produce the vegan version as well as the veggie version using the write vitamin D's in both. I think since then the company has been taken over and I am not sure what the origin of the vit D is now?? But as long as it is veggie I am happy!! BLOODY HELL I am a happy dog bore hehehe!!!

Furthermorte, it is approved by the BUAV (meaning it hasn't be cruely tested on animals like some dog foods) and more environmentally friendly approach to its packaging!!

Anyway, good luck and I hope all works out for you with your choice :0)

Thank christ, I'm so glad this isn't one of those vegetarian cats threads - I think it's a great idea for dogs and other animals it's suited to, but incredibly cruel to those it's not.

like you can put a cat on a diet anyway, cats make their own diet 90% of the time really...

Dok, we do plan on getting a huskie puppy, or at least a young dog, from a rescue place-there a few huskie rescues around the place anyways. So no worries there. Cheers for the link guys will check it out.

Yes, I wonder how you'd stop that vegetarian cat from catching mice ;)

They test it to the exstreme... not nice!!

Just a bit of info for you .... http://www.uncaged.co.uk/iams.htm

As for cats being veggie, if a cat likes veggie food and thrives on it, which isn't very often as far as I can gather then cool there is no harm in it!! But you can't stop a cat killing birds or mice or even baby rabbits, so it sorta defeats the point!! Cats can't store B12 apparently that is why they need meat (or veggie food with a B12 supplement!!).

If our dogs didn't like veggie food, I would feed them what they liked eg:meat based food but fortunately they love it.
