Brackenmore 2016. Low budget horror set in Southern Ireland, sort of Damien meets the villagers from Hot Fuzz along the lines of the Wicker Man. Different but watchable.

Going in Style with Michael Caine,Morgan Freeman and Alan Arkin also has Christopher Lloyd (doc in back to the future) and Ann Margret who looks really good for her years. The film is about 3 pensioners who rob a bank, funny in parts Michael Caines reaction when he tried a bit of the green stuff was priceless.

The Cobbler with Adam Sandler. Pretty terrible.

'Life' - with Ryan Reynolds. Such a great twist at the end. Well worth the watch.

Lady in the Van is very good. I'm glad I have my own toilet.

I went to see The Big Sick. It's about the conflict between a Westerner going out with a Muslim in America. It also covers second generation Muslims in the US (what if they don't feel the religion so strongly?). I'm sure it deals with the subject quite superficially, things aren't going to change that quickly, but it's a start.

It was good on many levels, funny, intelligent and moving. I loved the actress who played the girl's mother - she had a nice smile once she used it.

Sore fingers after a few hours of practice, so I watched "Drown" last night - an Australian film about lifeguards on a boozy night out, bullying and homophobia. After half an hour I nearly switched it off because it seemed so bitty in a low-budget kind of way. I think it was worth hanging in there, because the second half found some pace, but it was intense. Watching the interviews with cast and director made me wonder at time if we'd been watching the same film ...

I did a amateur film making course with the directer Steve Bernstein in the early 1980s. It was brave of him to tackle the subject.American film critics generally don't like gritty realism films but this one did not go overboard.
