What is seen on general view probably is licensed and controlled.Abuse ,cruelty is not usually on public view.To form a balanced informed intelligent view/opinion means researching ALL the facts, those kept in the shadows as well as those in public view.

dogs would still be born and they will still want to run , owners will get joy from seeing the dog run , other owners will be encountered and the dogs run together, its what they love to do , this progresses from letting em chase each other to chasing a pre captured rabbit or other hapless creature and maybe wagering a pint or 3 on the outcome.... , all you will do by banning the sport is revert it to above scenario and send the whole thing back to medieval values , at least it is licensed and controlled as it stands .

Animals are supposed to live alongside us, not be used for our entertainment. They're living beings with emotions. Not commodities!

    supposed by whom?
...not be used for our entertainment.
Why not? Shouldn't I laugh when the dog and cat get up to their antics? It isn't dancing bears!

First part was right. But they certainly are commodities too. If you don't like that, say so, but it is a fact of life.

supposed by whom.....No being is of greater worth than any other nor has any spiritual right to exploit, demean or terrorise another.Laughing when the dog and cat play and do stuff is in a very different league to breeding and exploiting, then discarding as rubbish by the cheapest means possible, another sentinent being.Commodities...humans view the whole planet and all therein as commodities in main. The christian teachings also say that the garden of eden, earth,is a playground bestowed by god for human entertainment.See anything going downhill fast on our planet folks? This atitude is our downfall, most probably our extinction.

    Dear cricket,

You can't change things by denial. Except in personal relationships. Animals are traded as commodities, dead and alive, on an epic scale. If you want to change that, great! It's pretty gross to say the least. But just to re-iterate the PC platitudes about animal rights does nothing to advance the argument for change.

Eating beasts is simply going to get too expensive (long-term) for this world-in-decline. Some human populations will continue to do so on a diminishing scale. We will eat more processed plant protein and invertebrates. Can't wait until they get rights too!

    Yours aye,

    B

I don't think the cat was bred by any scientific process, she is just a lane cat that got lucky. But thought went into breeding the dog to please the eye (I didn't do it, I don't have a dog, too much baggage), just as thought went into breeding evey type of dog for hunting, racing, ratting, food etc. We humans bred them and exploited them. We even breed the most grotesque looking things for novelty, and many breeders are (heartless bastards or pragmatic businesspeople, take your pick) who will destroy pups without a second thought if they don't stand to make a profit on them. All that has been going of for thousands of years in many cultures. Every dog owner also owns a little bit of that trade, even if the dog is rescued, because without it, there would be no surplus of dogs. Life's a bitch!

The breed won't disappear they are used for hunting and crossing with others to create a lurcher as you are probably well aware, but even if it did cease it is better that for the thousands of individual dogs that have a life of misery after the track days are over, than humans being upset because they can't have a beer and a bit of scran trying to win a few bob, you could always come up with something else to pass the time.
    You are so right ......
