You'd get a lot more for that sort of money in Spain, Portugal or France (not to mention Eastern Europe) .... and a better climate.

Not always the case. I bought 17 acres of mature chestnut coppice for 50k, in West Kent. Nobody else showed up to buy it. The auctioneer commented on the huge smile on my face.

Yes but it's not the UK, it's not England's green and pleasant. Who knows what will be the outcome of Brexit. One accident needing hospital intervention and a stay in, could bankrupt a less planned individual.

    Hi

Just wanna chuck something in the mix here. There are whole villages going for 1 euro in Spain, France and Italy. Buyer has to agree to do the place up and sometimes live there for a certain amount of time. Some places are for free. This is in Spanish but should translate ok. There are somewhere around 1700 villages currently for sale in Spain alone, according to some other sites. The pics are cool!

    Anyone fancy a recce mission?!
Wow! Sounds like a real opportunity for folks to create some kind of community. This is something I would be interested in and getting involved with a group of like minded people. Having only recently joined the forum I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Tipi Valley commune in south Wales is still thriving 40 yrs on from when I very nearly joined. Relationship, children and work was my

    Ooops!

Aforementioned were a barrier that stifeled my dreams. At 55 yrs old I am singled and free to go ahead and realise my dream now. So many ways I can go but settling in a warm climate country to see out my retirement seems most appealing. Where in the world should I go is what Im trying to decide? Any ideas from you guys will be gladly recieved. Love, Peace and Positivity to all. Mick

Before Mrs B and I moved to Wales we looked at Spain, France, Ireland and Bulgaria as a way to dip our toes in the smallholding water cheaply - without selling our house in Kent, so we would have a rental income and a way to return. We decided against it because we foresaw a rise of nationalism in Europe, and didn't want to be the obvious "outsiders".

Portugal all drugs are LEGAL imagine the Cannabis grow you could have in a place like that that is tempting, your first crop would pay for that place

That's not quite true , they are decriminalised and treated as a health issue , which is a sensible approach. If they were totaly legal and you had a massive grow , who would buy them

I suppose so, but it is cheap to live out there well cheaper than here apparently I know Spain is cheaper than here and I was always told Portugal is cheap in Spain although I've never experienced that myself
So you could live out there cheaply and grow your own weed without anybody bothering you that sounds ideal

Why not look at the Lammas model ? Or one of the other communities ?

They seem happy, and the model means that somebody who doesn't fit can be expelled.
Not really true, when you buy your plot and get planning through OPD council no matter what kind of a idiot you are you stay end of, like any utopia it can have a dark under current that you only get to see when you are there 24/7 even the free communities have the same problem.

I fancied the Azores, but Mrs B blocked that one straight away - too difficult for the boys to visit - and that was before they both started (unexpectedly) producing grandchildren.

Anything you can tell us would no doubt help other prospective community founders. Personally, I'd like to know in case I have to gather my extended family around me in a hard future, no intention of founding a community of strangers.
