for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness...

Does anyone actually mean this any more ? Or is it an outdated "vow", for appearance only, to be broken when the fancy takes you ?

Do people choose a partner for life ? Or is it more like a mobile phone contract, valid until a better "deal" comes along ?

To be honest, people are so lightweight these days they don't have the attention span of a goldfish

I certainly do yes. The consequences don't bear thinking about for the opposite sex if not.

I have a saying. "Stay out of my van or marry me"

There are people who really love and truly care for each other, but on the other side of the coin there have always been lots of loveless marriages and people who find their partner is, or has turned to being, abusive or cold. No generalising ever has worked or ever will work for the range of marriages out there.
I don't think you can ever judge from the outside on hearing just a few facets of someone's life.

It's a great vow to make if you mean it, but if you don't mean it, it means nothing.
Love everyone, even those who hate you, because they need your love the most.

it means something if you've met "the one", I did and lost her after 5 years of a wonderful marriage, divorce was not my choice.
