'' hey guys , lets open a vegan takeaway specialising in tofu based fish imitations , we can call it vegan then deep fry it in lard''

sound reasonable Haggers ? , by the way , I would dispute that most chippies use beef based oil .

Some still use beef fat but a lot use palm oil or rapeseed oil . Veg oil options are a bit new fangled for the Hagmeister I expect

Very few use beef fat nowadays, as said most use rapeseed oil or palm oil. The last one to use beef in my area closed last year.

I was told by an award winning chippie that the best batter is that fried in beef dripping, also I was brought up to "never assume a damn thing", ask first, that's why we've got tongues for!!!

This is the vegetarian / vegan support forum and not the place to discuss beef dripping.

Hehe I think the point may be that the vegan fish and chip shop owners have already sussed that they can't use beef dripping..

I've been to try it out, it's about 2 mins on a bike from my house.
Very nice food, the battered sosmix sausages are good. Did not try the tofish so can't comment on that. They do very good stir fry as well and cakes. Matter food took over a more traditional Chinese take away and the people who ran that take away have stayed on to cook so there is a good blend of typical take away and organic vegan food. Will go again, although it is a bit more expensive that most of the take away food in Fishponds.

So what oil do they use? The only vegetable one to use for deep-frying would be coconut oil. The only downside it keeps me awake if consumed too late in the day.
    We all lead different lives.
