Talking Do you live in an unconventional house?

    Hi there,
I work for a television company in London and we're making a programme which features people living in the UK in a home for under 5k. Anyone that lives lawfully on a piece of land and has built their home for a total of about 5k we'd love to hear from! This can include anyone that lives on a boat, in a camper van or a trailer, living on the move and touring the country.
Please get in touch, we'd love to hear from you and feature that nomadic lifestyle on our show!
    Thanks
    Heather

Speaking of journalists . I heard on the news that ' the BBC has discovered a large number of homeless peeps in the countryside' , this was announced sunday morning , countryfile was aired same Sunday evening with an 'in-depth feature' on the 'crisis' , coincidence ? ...

Same subjuect I got a text from a friend saying watch out for Corky (mad Scottish alcoholic friend of mine) on the tv , he is showing a tv crew around a few of his old hedges'' , sure enough there he is about 7 minutes in , few of you might recognise him from the ridgeway @solstice and equinox's ..

These people love to make money off of other peoples hard work, I've had a few enquiries about magazine features on various custom cars and hotrods I've owned over the years, soon as you ask 'em what they are paying they lose interest.

I'm avoiding that kind of media like the plague. Imagine all the opinionated dickheads at work, the day after it's been aired. Discussing the rights and wrongs of our chosen way of life. No thanks! I've got enough enemies and folk who would choose to bad mouth me and they are the ones who have met me.

I might be interested if it helped me get my Equity card? I've been a extra in 2 x British films but never pursued a Equity membership. Back then 200/1 I was led to believe I would have had to be an extra at leased 3 x times to qualify. Reading the Equity bumf now, I would need to prove I had earned more than 500 from the industry. Probably qualify with a little paper chasing. So for anyone who is interested in the OP's proposal, Equity could possibly be a incentive?
even a gypsy caravan is too much settling down.

I have earned more than 500 from film extra work, I was in a small number of period movies local to where I used to live in france, yet to ever see myself on the screen though, hard to prove it now though, not sure I ever bothered to get the paperwork, just took the cheque. Boring work most of it, walking up and down in 35 degree heat in a heavy hot period dress pretending to hold conversations by saying Yabba, yabba, yabba, blah blah blah," for hours on end,

No interest in OPs proposal, wrong country, spend more than 5 grand, wouldn't touch it with a barge pole anyway.

I bought a bright yellow mk1 Escort from a film company vehicle supplier that had been in the peter sellers life story film, does that count?

Maybe the interest in cheap homes has something to do with the stupidly high, artificially maintained prices of conventional housing.

Or perhaps it's Kensington council trying to save money. ;-)

I don't know whether to delete and ban or leave it here for a laugh - maybe impale her head on a spike as a warning to others.

Better the OPs approach of simple honesty rather than Itinerant Genius' approach which was to go through the motions of pretending to be one of us for a short while, and then getting abusive when their true colours come out and they were just another researcher. I will quote again the email to me because it does nicely show why so many of us are skeptic all of these kinds of people who just see us something to exploit for their profit, and never ours.

"You dont have to come to me for an interview
so why? did you have to be so negative about my posts.
Youve just turned the whole thread into a fucking witch hunt for some lass that wants to get by launching a business.

We are not all as wealthy as you that we can afford to sit on our arses.
Thanks a bunch you coward for destroying the thread.
Live long in you misery and bitterness"

if you get the film made can you post a link to it? most of us would watch it so we can see how its portrayed. you never know there may well be a follow up documentary in it. us lot ranting about the first one being untrue or even us lot congratulating you on portraying the lifestyle well

honest or not Ive never trusted the media and certainly wouldnt after how channel4 portrayed the family on benefits. Most of them want 'edgy and controversial' because 'bland and matter of fact' doesnt make popular saleable viewing material.
Personal view is any attention on the way we live will attract people to live like us for leisure reasons and that will spoil it for those of us who live 24/7 in vans and trailers.
Theres another recent media post somewhere looking for 'characters' to interview for a prog.
It doesnt really take much to work out why theyre looking for 'characters' not just ordinary 'hum drum' hippy travellers.
Noticeable how they never want to put the spotlight on others more worthy of scrutiny, like how politicians struggle day to day to live on parliamentary expenses.!

I would do a tv show with Kevin Mcloud or George Clarke in a heartbeat, Because they have shown by example they focus on the design and construction, with the only drama the not inconsiderable trials and tribulations doing something unique causes. I have now not secret dream of doing a build featured on Amazing Spaces.

    The rest, probably never.

Two words. Benefit Street. Another word Edit.
People being happy with their lot and just getting on with their (all be it alternative) life isn't that good TV. Editing can make van dwellers look like sponging thieves.
The planned program might show van dwellers in a good light
Some TV companies have the misconception that everybody is absolutely gagging to get on TV and become 'famous'.
Sadly you will never know in advance which is the truth until the show is aired.

I am part of a heavily misrepresented in the media minority, I have had acquaintances do shows where one thing was promised and post production they were edited into the worst possible light. One lady, no names, ended up killing herself due to a media witch hunt after agreeing to an short TV interview. The law was charged and the press sanctioned for their poor behaviour, but she is still dead.
